On Nov. 28, senior Isaiah Delgado signed to wrestle for Utah Valley University. It was held in the library after school where his family, friends and teammates all congratulated him on his success involving his love for wrestling.
"A lot of my friends and family were there;" Delgado said. "It was something you only get to experience once."
Delgado has been wrestling for 12 years. With all his experience, he hopes to enhance his skills at Utah Valley. He said he felt comfortable with Utah Valley than the other colleges that he was seeking.
"There were a few colleges that stood out to me: Old Dominion, Utah Valley, Maryland, and Utah State," Delgado said. "But I think I felt that I'd feel better at UVU."
While he's involved with Utah Valley's wrestling team, Delgado will be attending Utah Valley for his bachelors in Biology. With this degree he hopes to pursue a career as a Veterinary Surgeon.
Before signing, Delgado was on the hunt for the perfect out-of-state college because many universities in Texas do not have wrestling teams.
"Trying to find the right college was hard because I'm the oldest in my family and we've never gone through the recruiting process," Delgado said. "You really have to reach out to coaches," Delgado said.
Delgado and his family contacted coaches early on and found out Utah Valley had a hold on him.
"They asked me to go down for a visit, and I really liked the team and the coaches," Delgado said. "I think it was a good fit for me."
While representing Eastwood, Delgado has had one of his greatest memories of wrestling when winning state. He said his four years of being a Trooper has been well and he has made many good friends. Delgado hopes to achieve success in the national championships along with his improvement with Utah Valley wrestling.
