The Horizon Scorpions came into the Bob Lesley gym on Nov. 7 attempting to win their first game of the season. Despite their best efforts, they were no match for the Troopers, who improved to 2-0 on the season and hope to continue this success heading into a tournament next week in La Joya, Texas. This home opener for the Troopers saw a packed hungry home crowd that with every point only seemed to get louder. By the end of the game, the gym was rocking.
At the end of the first half, the game was 17-16 with Eastwood in the lead. Both teams came out firing at the beginning of the third and ended the quarter 23-24. It seemed the score would stay at a standstill the entire quarter with the score only rising to 27-24 on some free throws. That was until late in the quarter when senior point guard Desarae Luna-Villanueva scored on a fast break, and the Bob Lesley Gym exploded with energy. With the walls shaking and the score now 29-24 Horizon needed a timeout to calm the storm.
The time out only calmed things for a moment, and Horizon now desperately needed to tie the game, but with the clock winding down, senior forward Kaylee Martinez came up with a huge block and with that the gym was rocking again. The game was over as the scorpions began to foul the Troopers to stop the clock. The final score was 36-30.
