The 5-2 Eastwood's varsity girls' softball team defeated the Coronado Thunderbirds at an away game Tuesday, March 18.
The Lady Troopers began the game with intensity and strong determination that showed in their performance. The girls dominated the Thunderbirds after not allowing them to bring in a single run.
The team came together during the first inning to bring in five runs for Eastwood. Coronado fell behind the Lady Troopers 5-0.
The second inning's results contributed to the girls' strong lead. They brought in another five runs that reassured them their lead over the Thunderbirds. The score was 10-0 by the beginning of the third inning.
Eastwood's third inning proved to be successful for the girls' varsity softball team. Coronado still could not score a single run. The ending of the third inning brought the Lady Troopers' score to 20.
The next four innings lacked a single run from either team. Both teams were at a standstill. Eastwood had possession of the lead until the very last of the seventh inning. The girls reached sweet victory 20-0 against Coronado.
Senior second baseman Courteney Youngs said, "We've set goals for ourselves, and that's making playoffs and advancing from there. With as talented a team as we have, we know we're capable of achieving that. That goal is just another reason to play our best."
Eastwood's varsity softball team plays this Friday at home against the Bel-Air Highlanders.
