The Lady Troopers played a close-scoring, competitive game against the Loretto Angels Tuesday night.
The first period started with the girls struggling to find a way to gain a lead over Loretto. They were disappointed when the score was tied 9-9 at the end of the first period. The team couldn't find a way past the determined Angels during the second period either. The girls only scored 4 points throughout the period. Loretto managed to lead the Lady Troopers at half-time with a score of 15-13.
At the beginning of the second half, the girls looked animated as they took the court. Head coach Endi Vargas said, "The girls finally started following the game plan in the second half. They started doing their jobs."
The girls' efforts wouldn't prove them to be victorious in the third period. Lady Troopers once more trailed behind the Angels at the end of the third period with a score of 24-23 after they scored a mere total of 10 points.
The girls managed to find their rhythm towards the end of the game when they scored a sum of 14 points during the fourth period. Senior power forward Sarah Skov helped to pull the girls into the lead with her contribution of 18 points for Eastwood. She was the top scorer for the night.
The team's defense only allowed Loretto to score 7 points, which put Eastwood in the lead with 37 points at the end of the game. The final score was 37-31.
Vargas hopes that for upcoming games, the girls don't let the other teams distract them with dirty play. She also hopes they get tougher mentally.
The Lady Troopers look to take on different teams at the Texas Invitational Tournament this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in Pasadena, TX.
